Why payroll uses decimal hours
Pay is hours multiplied by a rate, and that only works with decimals. 7:30 times $20 isn’t a sum a calculator understands, but 7.5 × $20 = $150 is. Getting the conversion wrong is a common payroll error: 7:30 is 7.5 hours, not 7.3.
