Projects

A project is a piece of work that time is tracked against, usually for one client. The Projects screen lists them with the hours tracked, the amount earned and how far along each one is.

Tasks

Tasks split a project into smaller parts, such as “Site survey” and “Wi-Fi rollout”. People pick a task when they track time, and reports can then show hours per task.

Who can work on a project

A project is either public, so anyone in the workspace can track time on it, or private, so only the people and groups you add can. The Access tab is also where project managers are named.

Estimates, budgets and progress

Give a project a limit, in hours or in money, and Punchly shows how much of it is used. This is how a manager sees early that a project is running over.

Forecast

The forecast answers one question: with the work that is scheduled, where will this project end up against its estimate or budget?

Templates, archiving and bulk edit

Templates save setting up the same kind of project again and again. Archiving puts a finished project away without losing its time. Bulk edit changes many projects in one go.

Clients

A client is the customer the work is for. Projects are grouped under their client, reports can be filtered by client, and invoices are addressed to them.

Tags

Tags are labels for time entries that work across projects, such as “Remote”, “On-site” or “Urgent”. They let reports show, for example, all on-site hours whatever the project.

Billable rates and cost rates

A billable rate is what the client pays per hour. A cost rate is what that hour costs the company. With both, Punchly shows the amount earned, the cost and the profit.

Project alerts

An alert warns the right people when a project reaches a chosen share of its estimate or budget, for example at 80%.
